Fun swirly earrings, handmade from recycled brass bomb casings. The artists view using this material as a strong statement that today Cambodia has found peace.
The artists making this jewellery work with a non profit local NGO in Phnom Penh that works to generate income and provide skills training. The bomb casings are a legacy of the intense cross border bombing carried out during the Vietnam War. The bomb casings are provided by the Halo Trust (a British based organisation that specialises in the removal of the hazardous debris of war) who have been working in Cambodia for many years. They are also found by fishermen fishing in the Mekong River.
