Organic certified. Shade grown by small landowners in very isolated areas all over East Timor, this high grown arabica has a malty rich liquor, well balanced earthy character and a luscious creamy finish. Their coffee cherries are processed by Cooperative Cafe Timor, a Fairtrade coffee cooperative with over 19,000 farmer members.
DECEMBER 2011 NOTE: Previously this coffee has been Fairtrade certified. The 2011 harvest was not Fairtrade Certified but Bercat has continued to supply it as certified organic coffee for the many people who have grown to love this coffee. FAIRTRADE is still negotiating with CCT for a new FAIRTRADE certification but it is not clear yet when this will be finalised.
Bercat Pty Ltd, a long standing Australian Fairtrade licensee roast and pack the Espresso blend of dark freshly roasted beans. Bercat focus on the processing and supply of organically grown Fair Trade products. Each year Bercat donate a portion of their profits back into the small Third World countries from which they source their products. In the past, they have provided for medical clinics in East Timor, irrigation systems in PNG and basic hydroelectric engineering initiatives to small villages also in PNG. Bercat have promoted sustainable agriculture and supported small farmers in developing countries for over 45 years.
