Framed by a deep red coloured silk this textile art piece from KMVS Qasab is beautifully worked by a woman from the Jat tribal group. Jat women design and produce exquisite labour intensive embroidery that is highly prized and limited in availability. The embroidery is closely stitched and completely covers the cloth. They take pride in the fact that their "stitches outlive the cloth on which they are sewn". Jat embroidery only became available for sale in recent years with two villages now members of KMVS which has taught the women the value of their outstanding work.
Total size 48cm x 59cm, embroidered panel 36cm x 47cm.
"The large art pieces that take us 4-6 months to complete bring us an income normally earned over a year. Doing them is like having a savings account. Every stitch we do is a deposit and when we finish we get such a large amount of money that we can do something important."
