Putumayo World Music was established in 1993 to introduce people to the music of the world's cultures. They have become known for their upbeat and melodic compilations of great international music characterized by the company's motto: "guaranteed to make you feel good!" The beautiful artwork on the covers of Putumayo's CDs is created by Nicole Heindl, whose colourful folkloric style represents one of Putumayo's goals: to connect the traditional to the contemporary. Putumayo are a unique brand representative of the many talented musicians and varied musical styles in the world, a rarity in today's artist based general music industry.
Putumayo are committed to helping the communities in the countries where the music originates from. Proceeds from the sales of each CD go to specific projects and charities in that country or region. Recipients include; Action Against Hunger, Aid to Artisans, Amnesty International, Coffee Kids, Global Exchange, Global Fund for Women, Habitat for Humanity, Mercy Corps, Oxfam, Slow Food and
Wildlife Conservation Society.
